Yesterday, 22nd April, over a billion people celebrated Earth Day.

It’s the 44th Earth Day, an annual opportunity to make every one of us  look at how we treat the world around us and how to help protect it.

Started in 1970, the aim of Earth Day is to bring to the attention the damming effect we are having on the Earth.  It tries to promote an adjustment to living, however big or small, that can make a massive difference.

Just the smallest change can go a long way in having a positive impact on the environment, whether this is done through home or business.

At Meercat, we have created an innovative Waste & Recycle Programme that we’ve recently implemented in the prestigious Fitzrovia and Baker Street Business Improvement Districts…

By carefully bringing the recycle collection and waste disposal needs of the districts together not only were costs significantly reduced but it had a positive environmental impact too.

Fewer waste vehicles were needed as multiply site collection was coordinated, thus traffic congestion was reduced and the BID successfully managed to reduce its carbon footprint hugely important to the BID ethos.

At Meercat Associates, we have a proven track record in coordinating multiple site collections, covering all business waste streams. With their incredible buying power, and complex understanding of the UK BID scene, contact Meercat today regarding your waste and recycle needs.

And what about our daily tips for money saving ideas?  Making just a small difference goes a big way in helping the environment (and your bills!)  – take for example these recent tips…

  • Lighting makes up a big part of your usage. Turning off lights when they are not needed is something all staff can be and should be encouraged to do!
  • Did you know that a computer monitor takes up a massive amount of the electricity a PC uses? Encourage staff to switch off their monitors on breaks and when they are in meetings.
  •  It may sound obvious, but only light areas that need lighting. This can save up to 30% on energy bills alone! Invest in timer switches to help achieve this.
  • A serviced boiler can save up to 10% on heating costs, so have your boiler serviced annually. Thermostats should also be calibrated annually to make sure they respond correctly to actual temperature.
